MauiSails and The Team.

World renowned sail designer Barry Spanier who back in 1995 teamed up with the veteran and former PBA World champion Phil McGain, using their experience in leading edge windsurfing technology, Research and Development provided Kevin Pritchard with the tools to win the Overall World Cup title in 2000. Kevin went on to win 5 more Titles since 2000 and become the Worlds premier windsurfer of Today. This TEAM has lead new developments in all aspects of the sport since 1978 and continue to lead the way today.

The name MauiSails comes along with a long history - it has been synonymous with high performance windsurfing, including world speed records and more than a decade long domination of PBA/PWA World Championships. It all started back in 1978 when Barry Spanier made it to the magical Island of Maui for the first time and enchanted by the ambiance of this unique place in the middle of the Pacific decided to make it his home base. After 25 years in the industry the come back to MauiSails has been the natural step for the Team leaders for whom the spirit of pure passion for windsurfing is what drives them daily.

MauiSails represents the people themselves, their ambition to make best sails , their pursuit to popularize an extraordinary lifestyle and their vision on how the windsurfing world should look like in XXI century. What matters most is making windsurfers enjoy time on the water , regardless of the destination and the level of their performance.

The MauiSails philosophy is about showing people they can do great things with their life , they can pursue their dream, even if they seem impossible to come true. TR-1
 

The Real One

The TR-1 is refined and highly developed for racing, slalom, and speedsailing. Designed and perfected by Barry Spanier, Phil McGain, and Kevin Pritchard at MauiSails R&D in Hawaii. Using controlled parametric testing and GPS technology, they have made the TR-1 the premier MauiSails high performance windsurfing product and the choice of competitive racers everywhere.

Already winning races all over the planet, this nine-batten configuration stabilizes the foil for added speed and makes it more stable overall. The added stability makes handling easier. Composite tube/rod battens with tapers tuned to cam pressure, lock rotation inside a slightly wider sleeve.

The TR-1 is truly new for 2005. It's a race sail you can depend on for the widest range of performance, with refined handling fit for a World Champion. We expect the combined rig to become known as the finest equipment for competitive racing.

Mike Waltze, Fred Haywood, Debbie Brown and Lena Kerr all used and loved MauiSails back when windsurfing was still young and Ho'okipa was being pioneered as the best place in the world to do the sport. This lightweight wave sail has loads of power and will never give you a hard time. Perfectly suited to the widest variety of situations, its deeper, more powerful shape and wave outline, make it ideal for onshore winds, and early planing. The durable construction and solid materials make it ideal for hard use and a long life; a life of sweet moments on the water, with easy handling and performance.

By carefully matching the deeper shape with slightly more powerful luff curves, and emphasis on soft, graduated twist, we have created a rig that is designed to get you going in gusty conditions and to remain comfortably in control when overpowered.
